Greedy Bunch of Pigs
October 26, 2005 | Category: Reflections & Musings
I did mention from my earlier post that I have alot going through my mind lately. From important matters to trivial matters like what to eat for lunch. I’ve been sitting here in my office the whole afternoon trying to think of what to blog about. If I can recall, I’ve tried blogging about dogs. Didn’t work. I even had the nick to think of a noodle post. Oh God please help me.
I nearly came to a conclusion of having a bloggers block, no thanks to the piling machine right outside my window. That noisy and vibrating machine is beginning to get on my nerves. Thank God the contractor has just stopped works. But not until my boss handed me a couple of cups and saucers to wash (FYI, yes we ALL multitask in the office) then I realized how greedy some people can be in this cruel world.
Let me tell you a story.
Today’s my colleagues birthday and being a good samaritan, I baked her a cake last night as a gift. This morning all of us in the office surprised her with the cake baked with love and a birthday song. As we all already know, it’s the Ramadhan month hence there are a few Muslims in our office who’s fasting. The cake I baked isn’t very big as we have only less than ten people here. As we were all enjoying our piece, my colleague suggested to keep the leftovers for our Muslim friends so they can enjoy a taste of the cake when it was time to buka puasa. Indeed we left half of the cake for them.
After lunch, I went into the pantry to get a glass of drink and when I opened the refrigerator, I found that half the cake left this morning was down to one piece. I was dumbfounded. I asked myself who could have eaten half a cake and leaving only one miserable little piece, hence I tried shrugging it off. Obviously I couldn’t so I IM-ed my colleague and asked if she had tea already, she said no. I casually told her about the last piece of cake in the fridge and we quickly decided to meet at the pantry. Upon opening the refigerator, the last piece of delicious cake was GONE! The person who took the last piece had the courtesy (trying to sound sarcastic here) of leaving the cake base there for someone else to ‘wash it for’ him/her.
I feel so sorry for those who didn’t get a taste of the cake. I honestly cannot comprehend why some people would do such a dispicable thing. These people are selfish bunch of morons who deserve to be fed cow dung for all I care! Don’t they realize that there ARE OTHER PEOPLE IN THE OFFICE who haven’t had a share of the cake??
As the Malay saying goes “Nasi sudah jadi bubur”. We can’t exactly dig whatever they ate out of their stomachs can we?
It really pisses me off when I know people who has a mentality of scum. Highly educated people. Well paid pricks who can only think of their stupid stomach. I swear I hope they choke on dinner tonight.
Having said that, I promised my other colleagues (who didn’t get the chane to taste the cake) that I will bring them a HUGE piece each tomorrow.
God willing, we still have leftovers of the cake at home.

on October 26th, 2005hi, i find it interesting that even though u want to share the cake, you want to select who eats it rather than extend an open invitation to everyone in the office. have u considered that the cake may have been eaten by your malay colleagues? they may not be able to wait till fast ends to eat. As u know not every malay observes ramadan. All of them will not eat in public, but they can eat in private and it is solely a matter for them to decide to fast or not. i dont think islam forces anyone to do anything, and in fact, anything done under duress is not observing the spirit of it. so i think it is allright if some of them decide eat the cake before fast ends.So there is no need to be angry at anyone who ate the cake. It might be the cake was eaten by the people u reserved it for. i always think generosity should not be conditional, and it would be nice if u are happy to let anyone eat the cake. pl dont be offended at what i wrote. i would be happy whoever eats the cake, that is all. i would like to know what ur views are.

on October 26th, 2005Anthony: Thanks for your very constructive comment. I’m not offended in anyway. Oh no, don’t get me wrong, I may have left out a few bits and piece of the story (I hate being long winded). I welcome whoever wants to eats the cake (afterall I baked it and I want everyone to taste it :)), and I agree that maybe those who were actually fasting may have eaten it but how often would anyone do that? Besides, there were only 2 Muslim colleagues who were fasting today AND both of them were not in the office during lunch hour. Honestly, I don’t care who ate it but the point I’m trying to imply is please leave some for those who have not eaten, be a little considerate of others. There’s a saying here in Sabah called ‘kepunan’ meaning if someone wants to eat something but doesnt get to, fear of unfortunate tragedy might behold that poor soul. I know it’s sounds superstitious but I hate to admit it can be true. =/ Again, you raised an important issue about fasting, not everything you said I agree…I just might blog about it later.
Jeremy: Hehe, not poor me. My poor friends who didn’t get to eat!! Oh well, I’m bringing them each a piece tomorrow. No biggie.

Aiyah, don’t worry if you come to visit I will bake for you.
