Malaysia My Home
August 30, 2005 | Category: Reflections & Musings
It’s less than 24 hours before its Independence Day, and I’ve never felt more excited in my life. All my life living in Malaysia, I never felt so elated and more proud to be a Malaysian. The feeling is indeed surreal. Normally, I would avoid all the hype and just be the observer looking from afar. I wouldn’t even think of wanting to blog about something that ‘everyone wants a say in’. I suppose having involved myself in the Malaysian blogsphere does have its side effects, in a good way, which is to be more involved in a lot of things.
When I first began blogging, it was never my intention to let people know of my existence. My blog would only be known to close friends. I was then now known as the ‘noodle blogger‘, where I’d blog about my daily life, day in day out. God! I was such a bore!
Since then, I think I’ve grown and learnt so much as a blogger (I’d like to think so). Mind you, I am NOT young and I may never be as good or as ‘fehmes’ like some bloggers but I don’t mind it at all because I made new found friends. I feel honored that I get to read and understand the thoughts, emotions, hopes and feelings of a lot of Malaysians out there. Looking back, I don’t regret one bit having to start blogging. Despite at times, some of you may have to endure some of my rather depressing posts, but hey, I’m only expressing myself. *sings ‘Express Yourself’ by Madonna*
I never had the experience of living overseas; therefore I wouldn’t know what it will be like being away from my homeland. What I’m trying to say here is, Malaysia has absolutely everything. We’ve got plenty of beaches, not to mention famous islands. We’ve got one of the best kept rainforests in the world. We’ve got great weather, heck; we even have cold weather so to speak! We’ve got the highest peak in South East Asia. We’ve got one of the best shopping malls for those shopaholics out there. We’ve even got world class F1 Circuit. We’ve got one of the best economic stability in the region (ok, maybe I’m over exaggerating) but aren’t we living in the best of both worlds? Trust me, there’s alot more where that came from.
Ok, I’m beginning to sound very cliche-ish now, so yeah, think about it.
Our country is not at war, we don’t have racial disunity, we don’t have terrorist trying to bomb our embassies, hotels and what not (I pray to God it doesn’t happen), plenty of rich and endless amount of natural resources and majority of us hardly live under the poverty line. What more can we ask for from our beloved country? It’s at the prime of its youth and is still going really strong or even stronger.
Having said that, I am absolutely awed by all the inspiring and creative ideas that some of the prominent Malaysian bloggers have come up with. It has made news in one of the national papers and I do hope a lot of bloggers out there would send in their experiences, thoughts and hopes as a Malaysian to these sites and in honor of the Independence Day.
For once, I dare say no matter where I will be in the future, I will always return because
“Home Is Where The Heart Is, and Malaysia Will Always Be My Home”
